July 19 -20, 2014
The Habi volunteers, in partnership with Team Bundol, conducted medical mission, child feeding, child friendly activities, construction of chairs for students and construction of comfort room in Sitio Lanao, Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. Team Bundol cut the plywood for easy transport. Members of team Bundol have to bring the plywood to sitio Lanao so they can construct the tables and chairs for students. Never in the lifetime of some members have they carried plywood for hours crossing rivers and climbing mountains. But they have to do it for the poor students in Sitio Lanao.
Bags and other materials were loaded. Bimbo, a registered nurse, and Shyla, an accountant, rolled the corrugated iron sheet for easy transport. Yamee Morales Lozorata carrying the PVC pipe for the comfort room and Bimbo has biscuits for the children. Aiza Maarayan carrying a gallon of paint for the tables and chairs that team Bundol will construct for the students. It may look easy to carry a gallon of paint but the long distance walk, following a river upstream for four hours, is so difficult. Yvonne and Joan bringing malungay for the child feeding.
Somehow we found joy in everything. Crossing the first river and then resting while waiting for others to catch up. And yes, crossing another river with big rocks and even walking through a cliff beside the river. Yamee was even trying to use the PVC pipe for a straw. So thirsty he wants to drink water from the river.
Finally, after four hours, we reached Sitio Lanao. Yamee and Bimbo helped each other in digging a septic tank while I was on the other end of the PVC pipe trying to improvise a toilet bowl using a plastic container. Bimbo is a registered nurse working with the PSWDO. A Blaan child was also trying to help Bimbo. He is deaf mute.
The following day, simultaneous activities - medical mission, child feeding and child friendly activities were done. Not seen in these photos, the Team Bundol constructing the chairs and tables. Nilong and his team were giving instruction to children for the child friendly activities. Someone has to translate for him doing the parlor games with Blaan children. Before we left the Sitio, we had a meeting with the tribal leaders. I made them promise that they continue the construction of the teachers' staff house, makeshift classroom and students' dormitory.
The area is not safe because of “rido” (clan war). So we requested for escort, but not from the military because Sapu Masla is where Camp Bhagdad of the MILF is located. Members of the MILF escorted us to the area. They are so nice. Looking at these photos, I was so touched I want to cry . . . Salamat Habi volunteers and Team Bundol. Sukran.” Doc Cagape
HABI Youth Volunteers would like to take this opportunity to THANK our partners and donors to make this Para Sa Bayan mission worthwhile and successful. Firstly, to the TEAM BUNDOL through Sir Ariel Lalisan for constructing the tables and chairs for the school children. Next ,to Sir Dan Evans of Datu Wali Mission for his financial support. Then of course to our ever supporting Governor Steve Solon and Vice Gov. Jinkee Pacquiao for the construction materials, plywood, and transport. Thanks to Mam Ping too and Cong. Manny Pacquiao for the school bags. This will not be also possible without the help of our Sarangani Department of Education (DepEd) through Sir Jomar Ventura, Mama Nawa Elem. School Head, to the BLGU of Sapu Masla, and MLGU Malapatan. Again, THANK YOU for all your support (to your constituents) and looking forward until our next activities. Keep supporting.

Made 1 improvised community toilet
CFA
Distributed 200 school bags
